I flipped through a Pottery Barn catalogue this morning as I stood at the kitchen counter, quickly scarfing my breakfast before my kids needed me for something else. I enjoy Pottery Barn, from its classic aesthetic to its catalogue’s photography, and today, I got a good chuckle out of this photo:
Aw, what an idyllic workspace for a work-from-home mom and her small child to share. Almost done playing neatly and quietly with your blocks, Janie? Mommy just finished her photo editing for the week, and it’s nearly time for ‘mommy and me yoga’! If this is your life, I swear I’m not mocking it. I am definitely applauding your decorating skills, and am mad jealous of your shiplap walls, and how un-dusty, crumby, and sticky everything in your office looks. I bow down to you, Pottery Barn mom, who clearly has her crap together. Because this is what my workspace looked like at that exact moment:
Totally the same, right?! I was actually feeling relatively “put together” this morning! The funny thing is…I’m 100% OK with my reality. More than OK, actually. I am feeling blessed with the mess, and the two little beings who made it. Am I completely overwhelmed these days as the primary for my two littles, the owner of my business, and the active volunteer for more groups than I can count on one hand? You betcha. I have a lot of balls in the air right now, and most days, I feel like if I am juggling two well, I’m fumbling the third, and the fourth just hit the ground. But, I also love everything I have going on right now, and wouldn’t have it any other way.
My mom vs. business owner balance has been tipped more towards mom this Spring, that’s true. But I have been busy updating my website, exploring new product and package offerings, booking sessions, and planning, planning, planning for a full, fun 2018.
My calendar is open to book sessions through the end of August! I’m excited to catch up with all of you this year, and capture your reality for you…whatever version of the above it may be!
You’ve got the right attitude, Jenny! Dad and I are proud of our daughter, as Mom, business owner, volunteer. You ARE doing a great job!
