Princess Penelope’s Enchanted Unicorn Birthday Party

PenelopeIt feels like only yesterday that I was tearing up while capturing sweet images of Penelope at her baby naming ceremony and first birthday party. Then, suddenly last Saturday, I had the pleasure of reuniting with this awesome family to capture more special memories for them as Penelope turned FOUR! Her mommy, Nichole, planned the most gorgeous, whimsical unicorn-themed party anyone could have ever dreamed of. And when a “real” unicorn walked in…well…magic really does exist, people. Teary-eyed once again. Every detail was perfect from the crown-making craft, to the face-painting, to Jeanie B’s fun tunes, and the pony rides. The gorgeous Galleria Marchetti backdrop could not have been more amazing for this special event. Happy, happy birthday, dear Penelope! And thank you so much, Nichole and Aaron, for including me in another special moment for your family.

And Baby Makes Three

ELI-Blog-1I had a wonderful time getting to know this sweet family last Saturday. How adorable are these three siblings? They were top models, giving me their best smiles and snuggling with their mom and dad. The oldest two were so sweet with each other and with their new baby sister. Excellent job, R. family! It was great to meet you…thanks for a fun time.

Ryan and Patrick

Ryan-and-Patrick-Blog-1

I had the BEST time with these two little brothers last Saturday morning. We took over my friend and fellow photographer’s studio space for the day, and had a great time playing around. I couldn’t get enough of Ryan’s contagious laugh and Patrick’s dimples. They just slayed me, these two! I’m completely smitten. I love how all of that joyful energy just bursts out of these images. It was wonderful to finally meet you, Colleen and Calvin! Thanks for such a great time.

Celebration

Birthday-Blog-01What better way to celebrate our little Mae than with a pink Paris-themed birthday bash last weekend? Pink because that is the color we most often associate with our rosy, cheerful, happy little girl. And Paris because that was the place Mike and I escaped to after we lost Hannah. The place where we came together and started living again. The place where we first had a glimmer of hope that there might just be another little sister in our family someday. Mae’s middle name, Genevieve, is not only a link to my name, but also a “thank you” to the patron saint of Paris, St. Genevieve, for giving us that hope. Because just a few years after that faithful trip, here she is! Our littlest love.

We had a lovely celebration at our home with family and friends from near and far who joined in our happiness. A million thank you’s to my parents, Aunt Charlotte, Uncle Brian, Lachelle, Mike, and Kevin for being here to make her day so very special. And a great big thank you to Auntie Becky and Uncle Adam and family and friends from afar for all of the thoughts, well-wishes, and special treats. We feel so incredibly lucky to have this sweetie in our lives.

Last night, she grabbed her cupcake in her little fist and gave it an excited lick. “Yum-Yum!” she shouted with glee, and my life was suddenly made. Mae’s smile lights up my life.

It was a wonderful celebration of Mae’s first birthday! Having so many friends and our family there made it perfect. You did a terrific job decorating for the party, Jenny, and the brunch was SO delicious.

I think everyone had a good time!

ONE

MaeOne year ago yesterday, I was filled with more fear than hope. We wanted you so badly, baby Mae, and were so afraid.

And then, one year ago today, you were suddenly, safely, miraculously here with us. Our life grew exponentially happier, our hearts fuller, our joy overflowed. You complete our family in a way I had only dreamed of.

And today, you are the reason I am filled with more Hope than fear.

My darling Mae Genevieve, watching you grow and thrive over the past twelve months has been one of the happiest experiences of my life. I have enjoyed every second of being your mother. You are sweet and cuddly, curious, smart, and so happy. Your smile makes my world make sense, your laugh rights all wrongs. Happy First Birthday, my littlest love! I can’t wait for more adventures with you.

Love,

Mommy
