That looks like paradise? Yep…it felt like it, too! Despite the craziness that has been swirling around me and Mike and our family this year…new baby, new home, usual manic work schedules…we somehow carved out time for our annual beach getaway. Escaping to the beach every year to rejuvenate and come together was a promise we made to each other on our honeymoon (while on a beach in Santorini!), and I am beyond thankful that we have been able to fulfill that promise. This year, we booked too late to be able to enjoy our usual escape, Marco Island, FL, so we explored Captiva for the first time. It was a special trip, as it was baby Mae’s first plane trip, and her first time sticking her feet in the sand and ocean. She did great! I think she’s going to be a beach-bum just like her mommy…and big sis! My heart was overflowing to witness Eloise’s love of a place I hold so dear. There’s no place like the beach for me. It’s refreshing and calming, it puts things in perspective. A true escape. And I have the added bonus of feeling close to baby Hannah there, since we vacationed in 2014 while I was in my early pregnancy with her. Last year, I felt her in the beautiful pink sunsets and cute little shells I kept picking up in the sand. This year, she made her presence known with the brightest, most vibrant, complete rainbows I have ever seen. As you can imagine, with a 4 year old and a 5 month old, it was not a relaxing experience! I spent most of my time living in the moment, and I definitely used my iPhone to capture more photos than I did my “big camera” this year. (We actually hired a local photographer to commemorate the trip for us this year…more on that later!) But I did manage to snap a few shots of the girls lounging by the pool in their “relax chairs,” as Eloise calls them. Such a wonderful trip!
I had the best time with this family! Most of them traveled from Louisville to Chicago to celebrate “Gran and DooDad’s” big 70th birthdays. Love that idea! We had a perfect evening for photos in Millennium Park. This family is beautiful, inside and out, and I really enjoyed getting to know everyone. Happy Birthday to you both, Caroline and Bill! Thank you so much for including me in such a special time for your family.
Can you handle it? This blog post is going to be complete cuteness overload, so prepare yourself. Owen and Reilly + bow ties, blazers, and teeny tiny top-siders could make anyone smile, even on their worst day. I had the best time getting to know this beautiful family last Sunday. These twin two-year-olds kept me on my toes, and we laughed and smiled as we explored Lincoln Park together. It was wonderful to meet you, Mary and Sean. And good work, Owen and Reilly! They were naturals.
Dear Eloise,
It’s impossible for me not to be emotional today. Because four years ago today, I heard you cry and held you for the first time. You are the child, darling girl, who made me a mom. For that incredible gift, as well as for your spirit, kindness, wit, and intelligence, I thank you. How four years have flown by so fast, I do not know. But I can tell you I have enjoyed every single moment with you. And I am so incredibly proud of the girl you are becoming. I can’t wait to celebrate all that you are today. Happy Birthday, Eloise Celeste! You are the light of my life.
Love,
Mommy
Our little girl is growing up SO fast!
I met up with two of my favorites, Hadley and little brother Paxton, to take Hadley’s 3-year pictures last Saturday morning in Olive Park. It. Was. HOT. These two top models didn’t let it get them down, though. They were all smiles as we took in the view, played ring around the rosy, and splashed around at the beach. What a blast! Thanks for sticking it out with me, Hollye and Mike! It was great to see you all, as always!
What a great trip! That photo of the rainbow has got to go on a wall in my new condo so I can look at it every day!
