Elizabeth Explores Olive Park

Elizabeth Blog-1This little face! I just can’t get enough of my buddy, Elizabeth. She’s sassy and sweet, and we had the best time together in Olive Park last Saturday. Elizabeth, you did a fantastic job with those amazing smiles! It was great to catch up with you, Jen and Matt! Mike and I are going to missing having the three of you as neighbors so very much. It’s been so much fun watching Elizabeth grow over the past three years (how is that even possible?!). Thanks for a great time!

Super Toes

Super-Toes-for-web

“Look at my toes! I am a super hero!” Eloise was absolutely delighted by the new shade of nail polish she chose last week as a special treat. When I proposed picking out a new bottle to paint our toes, I definitely didn’t see this color coming. I am more of a red toenail kind of girl. I was hoping she’d pick a nice shade of pink. You know, to mix it up a bit. This color…well, let’s just say, I am outside of my fashion comfort zone. But, when my three year old asks me with huge, excited, hopeful eyes if I’ll paint my toes to match hers, the answer will always be yes.

And, I mean, who would say no to having super hero toes? Goodness knows I could have used super powers this past week. After months and months of searching, we finally found the house of our dreams, and are wrapping up the inspection period. We also listed our current home this week, and let me tell you in case you have never tried it before: staging a house and keeping it clean for more than 10 minutes when you have a 3 year old, a newborn, and a dog is no easy task. The combination of trying to get things settled with two different homes at the same time (while the infant is screaming inconsolably, the dog is barking at something outside, and the three year old is clambering to watch yet another episode of Octonauts) is BRUTAL. One way or another, it will all be worth it in a month when we are settling into the new place. That’s what I am telling myself, anyway. Hopefully, my super toes will keep me sane until then!

Super toes! I love it!

Lachelle and Mike are Getting Married

Lach-and-Mike-ESession-Blog-1Fifteen years ago (EAK!), I first met Lachelle, standing under the flag pole in front of the student union at Denison. She was a Sophomore and the Inside Story Editor of The Denisonian, and I was a lowly Freshman and an aspiring journalist. It’s funny how vividly I remember our meeting…and yet the rest of our friendship is a blur of so many memories I can’t even count them. We have been friends through the best of times and the very worst of times. Through it all, Lachelle has remained one of the nicest, strongest, most genuine people I have ever met, and her friendship through the years has meant the world to me.

The first time I met her Mike, I was amazed to see how relaxed and comfortable Lachelle was with him. She is able to completely be herself with Mike…I’ve never seen her so at ease and happy before. And after a year of getting to know Mike, I can say that’s because he’s the sweetest, most considerate partner I could have hoped Lachelle would find. He’s fit right in with our crazy crew, and I am thrilled to call him a friend.

When Lachelle and Mike asked me to take their engagement photos, I was honored. We had a window of only a few hours last Saturday to shoot…and the weather was threatening. We went for it anyway, and I’m so glad we did! We were able to capture some images that really represent this pair…and wrapped just as it was started to rain (then snow!). Lachelle and Mike chose Belle Isle in Detroit as their backdrop. I was absolutely charmed by the old Casino building and the Conservatory…and when I saw the track and grandstands were set up for the upcoming Grand Prix…well, it was just fate. (Lach is a PR rep with a vast motorsports background and Mike is a car enthusiast…a match made in heaven).

OK, I’ll stop gushing now. Love you guys…we can’t wait to celebrate your wedding with you in just a few short months!

Mother’s Day Mini Sessions

Mini Blog-1

It’s amazing how many different photos can be captured in 20 minute increments with the same backdrop. Especially when that backdrop is the stunning Chicago skyline on a gorgeous Spring Day, when everyone has a fantastic reason to smile: celebrating mom! My first ever round of outdoor mini sessions last Sunday was a huge success, and I am already so excited for another round in July. Thanks to everyone who participated…for being flexible switching to Sunday after a rainy, chilly Saturday, and for keeping things running smoothly and on-time. It was the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

DSC_8098I had the best time celebrating Mother’s Day today in Lincoln Park…not only with three wonderful families, but also with my own. Thanks, Mike, for capturing my own Mother’s Day Mini Session before my client sessions started. What a nice surprise! We had a beautiful Spring day, and I am so excited to dive into the photos next week…stay tuned! Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom…the best Vovo of all time…and to all of the fantastic moms out there.
