Taking Leave

Leave-for-web

So, I’m officially on maternity leave. What does that mean, exactly, for a small business owner? Read: I’m done shooting for the next two months. But I will be finishing up last-minute editing before baby arrives in the next few weeks, and will continue to blog, answer emails, and schedule sessions once she is here. So, please don’t hesitate to reach out…I’m here and happy to help if you need me. Assuming everything is normal and healthy for me and the littlest sister, I plan to be back behind the camera full time May 1. Prices and package details will remain the same for 2016. There’s only one change for this year, and it’s a scheduling one. My weekday availability will be extremely limited, and I will be shooting mostly on Saturdays and Sundays in order for me to maximize time with my little ones while they are still little. My calendar will book slightly faster because of this change, so if you are interested in a summer session, please let me know. I’ll be booking dates through the end of July, and can take notes for any session requests beyond that.

So, how am I feeling about all of this? Relieved. This is the first of my three pregnancies that I haven’t had to reschedule a single session because of extreme symptoms, an early arrival, or health scares. That’s definitely a huge load off my mind. And now…it’s the waiting game. The littlest sister had her 36 week check-up yesterday and is looking happy and healthy. She’s definitely getting ready to make her debut, and Mike and I are both very cognoscente that big sister Eloise arrived at 36+5. So even though we hope we can get through one more week, into full term territory, we are prepared, just in case. Our bag is packed, her clothes are washed, and despite an abundance of nerves, we are all so excited. I’ll definitely post baby news to the blog once the time comes, so stay tuned. And many, many thanks for all of the supportive emails and texts that have been coming in over the past few weeks. This is definitely a difficult time for me, and I appreciate the positive thoughts and prayers so much. You guys are the best.

Baby Lucas

Lucas Newborn Blog-1Back in 2011, I had the pleasure of second-shooting Elena and Nick’s gorgeous wedding with the talented Victoria Sprung. Imagine what a thrill it was when Elena reached out a few weeks ago to let me know she and Nick just had a baby boy! I am so honored to have been able to take baby Lucas’s newborn photos for this special couple. Lucas was a top model and so very darling. It was wonderful to catch up with you again, Elena and Nick! Congratulations again on your perfect new addition.

Paxton: 9 months

Paxton-9-months-Blog-1This family has had a BIG three months since I saw them last! Not only is my buddy Paxton crawling, pulling up, and close to walking, but the family is in the process of moving into a beautiful new home. I am so glad we were able to finally schedule this fun session in between all of the moving madness…and before my maternity leave! It’s so special for me to capture all of the milestone months for your kiddos. Already looking forward to one-year photos!

I am the Ostrich. Coo-coo-ca-choo.

About a week ago, a flip definitely switched for me. Physically, I’m suddenly super uncomfortable.  Feeling like a full-blown beached whale. If whales experience frequent heartburn and Braxton Hicks contractions, that is. I’ve got the 8-9 month waddle down pat. And sleeping comfortably? What is this “sleep” concept? My pregnancy insomnia is back in full force.  Although none of that is pleasant, it is all normal and to be expected. This isn’t my first rodeo. My bigger issues are emotional.  I’ve cracked. Reached a limit. This was also expected. I knew this late-term stretch would be the most challenging of the pregnancy, with vivid flashbacks and rampant anxiety. It’s every bit as brutal as I feared it would be.  I’m even less patient than normal. (That has to be some sort of record.) Every bad story I hear, whether personal or in the news, completely sets me into a tailspin of despair.  I’ve become an ostrich, sticking my head in the sand to avoid anything that is in any way upsetting.  I’m desperate to surround myself with warm and fuzzy, happy, harmless distractions. So, The Today Show, local news, Facebook and the like have all become enemies numbers 1, 2, 3 etc. If it’s not a feel-good Gilmore Girls rerun, retail therapy, a pastry splurge, or hanging out with my innocent toddler, I’m not interested. (Now that I’ve written that out…it doesn’t seem all that abnormal. But you get the gist.) See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

Gold Stars 2

The gold star in the midst of this gratuitous and  whiney pregnancy rant? Just a few more weeks to go.

Yep, friends. That’s the best I can do in the way of optimism this morning!

Spencer turns 6 months old

Spencer-6-month-Blog-1My little buddy, Spencer, is 6 months old, and we celebrated with a fun photo shoot last week. While big brother was at school, it was the Spencer show. He gave me his best serious looks…but cut me a break by cracking a few amazing smiles, as well. And, of course, he got tons of cuddles with mommy and daddy. Thanks for a great time, Amber and John! It has been so much fun, capturing your growing family’s moments.
