3 years old

Loves: Her “best, best buddy” Giraffey, The Care Bears Nutcracker Suite (circa 1988, a vintage Mommy and Auntie Becky throwback. Yep, it’s on VHS and it’s a Christmas movie. And we watch it every day.), blueberries, bacon, and popcorn, her flannel bunny sheets and Pjs with a puppy on them (who she named Oscar. She refuses to wear any other jammies.), time at the beach, riding on airplanes (unlimited TV and no car seat!), the color yellow, riding her trike (especially with her new helmet!), Doc McStuffins Band Aides, going out to eat (Chipolte is her favorite restaurant), dancing while she eats, making up songs, playgrounds, riding the L, horsing around with Daddy after dinner, snuggling with Mommy for story time before bed every night.

Dear Eloise,

HAPPY (early) BIRTHDAY! How are you 3 years old already? You’re so much fun, and a total joy to be around. Dad and I can’t wait to celebrate all that you are this weekend. We love you so much, little girl!

Love,

Mommy

Ellie Quotes of the Week:

* “I think it’s MARVELOUS!” (About the status quo dinner I offered her the other night.)

* “You’re stopping my ambition!” (When I tried to take back my cell phone from her peanut butter and jelly coated hands. I truly have no idea where she gets this stuff sometimes!)

* “You need to eat healthy, nourishing food…or you’ll get a cavity in your eye.” (Said gravely to one of her stuffed animals as she gave it a check-up. This was prior to it receiving a quick shot to the brain. Dr. Eloise doesn’t mess around.)

* “When I was a little boy, this [toy] was my favorite. But now I am a big girl.” (Responding to one of Mike’s “when I was a little boy” stories. Oh, Ellie.)

* “Why does he say ‘Muh-hahahah!’ Bad guys always say ‘Ha-Ha-HA!'” (Her evil laugh impression is amazing.)

* “THAT’S not a sea shell!” (We were going through her treasure box, looking at all of the beach shells and rocks she’s collected this year…when she pulled out a half eaten cereal bar. Yeah, I need to start checking what “treasure” she stores in there every night.)

* “Don’t worry! He won’t be mad!” (Convincing me to paint her toenails for the first time after worrying about what Daddy might think. We painted them sparkly yellow…her choice. And, no, Daddy wasn’t mad 🙂 )

Vu and I love you SO much, Ellie! And we see so much of your Mommy in you. We think your spunk and sense of adventure are great, and we hope you will always want to try new things (within reason, of course!) Happy 3rd Birthday !

Payton, Gemma, and Dominic

Payton,-Gemma,-Dominic-Blog-1I’ve been taking photos for this family since Payton was a tot and Gemma was a newborn peanut. And now, Payton and Gemma are almost as tall as I am (um…save the jokes…I know it’s not that hard!), and look at how big the littlest kiddo, Dominic, is! We had a beautiful morning to bum around Lincoln Park together last Sunday. Thanks for another great time, Diana and Craig! It was so much fun to catch up.

Union Pier

Union-Pier-Blog-1A few months ago, Katy proposed a great idea. Her parents would be traveling from their home in Hawaii for a visit here in Chicago. Since Katy doesn’t have any childhood photos of herself with her grandparents, she wanted to capture some special moments with her parents and Ben and Molly. Katy and Jason have an idyllic cottage in Union Pier, MI…which is only about 70 minutes from Chicago. She thought we could mix it up and do the session there. You know me, I’m a sucker for grandparent photos. And, on a beautiful beach, to boot? My dream session! Mike and Eloise joined me for the ride and had a blast exploring Union Pier while I spent time shooting with these six. (Seven, if you count Cooper, the family pup, who definitely wanted to mug for my camera!) Then Katy and Jason treated us all to amazing shrimp rolls and the best root beer floats I’ve ever had at Nani’s Café. It was a fantastic time! These photos are so special. Thanks for the wonderful idea, Katy, and for all of the friendly hospitality. Mike, Ellie, and I loved being part of your crew for the day! (And I am seriously still thinking about that delicious lunch!)

Bryce

Bryce-Blog-1I had a great time catching up with my buddy, Bryce, the other weekend at 31st Street Beach. He was fascinated by the sand, and adorably requested taking off his shoes and socks so he could better explore the beach. After some fun in the sand, we checked out the boats in the marina, and finally…the piece-de-resistance: we hit the playground. Lots of smiles there! Can’t believe how big this kiddo has gotten since the last time I saw him. Thanks so much for another great time, Brooke and Darius! I always love seeing you three!

Quinn and Nicole

Quinn-and-Nicole-Blog-1These two sisters are so much fun to hang out with! They were full of smiles as we played around their house the other day. Amy, thanks for having me over! I always have a blast with your little ladies.
